B. Must be after the breeding, but before puppies are whelped. Postmark on envelope transmitting nomination establishes date of nomination.

Dear Futurity Participant:

The board of Directors is pleased to announce that the DPCA has entered into a two year Agreement with RALSTON PURINA COMPANY whereby Purina will sponsor our Futurity and provide substantial monetary support of health related and educational projects at the direction of the DPCA.

Purina's intent is to invest in the future of purebred dogs. The DPCA's purpose is the preservation and protection of this breed. What the Agreement between Purina and the DPCA means to us as Doberman breeders and exhibitors is that funds will be made available by Purina for targeted projects of the DPCA, such as development of an illustrated standard for Judges Education, support of the newly created DPCA Health Registry, and/or support of Doberman genetic health research. All funds that the DPCA receives from Purina will be disbursed to the designated targeted projects at the direction of the DPCA board.

Purina's financial commitment is potentially enormous, depending upon participation in the DPCA Futurity program. Purina has agreed to donate $10.00 to the DPCA Targeted Project for each litter nominated and $2.00 for each puppy nominated. Further, each Futurity nominated puppy earning its AKC Conformation Championship title will earn an additional $25 donation to the DPCA targeted project. Purina will donate over $8,000 annually in cash and trophies to support the futurity competition and program and will provide Event Recognition Awards (such as Best Junior, Best Senior and Best in Futurity).

Individually, Purina will provide a formal recognition awards to each Futurity Nominated puppy achieving its AKC Conformation championship; and for each Futurity breeder and Futurity Nominated puppy owner who redeems Purina weight circles as a member of the Purina Pro-Club, an additional donation of 10% of the weight circle points accrued annually under that program (up to $20,000 annually) will be made to the designated DPCA target project. Purina will make other promotional items and benefits available to those breeders and owners of Futurity nominated pups who choose to participate in those promotions, as well, although such participation is not a requirement of Purina's donations to the targeted projects.

What Purina asks from the DPCA in return for providing the foregoing benefits is that the DPCA publicize this "Futurity Alliance" to DPCA members; that the DPCA make advertising space available to Purina in the membership directory, the Pipeline, the website, Futurity communications, the National Specialty Show Catalog, Premium List and Judging Schedule, and certain other DPCA publications at no cost to Purina; and that the DPCA provide to Purina a list of Futurity Breeder's and owners names and addresses so that Purina can distribute Pro Plan Starter Kits to those breeders who nominate litters, and promotional items to owners. The contract that Purina has signed with the DPCA provides that these names and addresses will remain confidential, and will not be sold, or given, to any other person or organization. Only Purina will have this database, and it will only be used for promotional communications from Purina to breeders and owners participating in the Futurity program.

The income potential from this program, income that can be used to support educational and health related programs benefiting our Dobermans, is enormous. While the current Agreement between Purina and the DPCA has a term of only two years, it is possible, if it proves successful, that this program could be extended for additional terms. Further, the fact that we have been able to negotiate a contract such as this harbingers well for the ability of the DPCA to attract other sponsors for educational and health - related programs that will benefit this breed. The DPCA board sees this Alliance as an important first step in better serving the needs of our breed and this club.

This agreement with Purina was entered into after the Nationals; therefore, those nominations made from April 2001 to the present will need to be "grandfathered" in so as to enable the DPCA targeted projects to receive the income benefits of this agreement this year. To enable the DPCA to do that, we need to have breeders and owners of those litters and puppies sign an acknowledgement of the agreement, so that their names can be provided to Purina and their litters and nominated puppies "registered" in this program.

We are therefore requesting that you sign the acknowledgement that is attached to this letter and return it to us in the enclosed preaddressed envelope as quickly as possible. The faster you return this acknowledgement to the DPCA, the better, as that means the funds to be provided by Purina in support of the educational and health projects of the DPCA will start to accumulate.
